How the Pandemic has affected the way to dress.

During this pandemic, we have been sitting at home a majority of our time. We have learned how to communicate, work, play and entertain ourselves virtually. Our behavior has been forced to change abruptly and adapt to the enforced new reality.

Never in our lifetime have we experienced the same consumer fashion behavior response across the globe. Globally we have embraced comfortable loungewear and athleisure. Loungewear, the even more relaxed cousin of athleisure, was one of the hottest commodities of 2020, and it continues to be trendy in 2021.

Global Trends Report

Although we are craving the psychological impact of ‘comfort dressing, we can see this trend continuing according to reports such as the Global Trends Report. It analyzes the shopping for sneakers, slides, and sandals over other styles stilettos, fashion’s relaxed mood. The trend will not last forever.

Humans crave originality, we want to be different, so it is expected that we will see a departure from head-to-toe athleisure sooner or later. Mixing staples with more formal looks are expected to grow in popularity with outfits such as blazers paired with sweatpants and hoodies, and so forth.

In a recent interview with Sweet Matitos designers Tito Maristany and Matias Jaramillo, one thing was clear.  We are abandoning the current forever comfort trend and getting into the new adventurous trend of Sophistication and Comfort.

Jewelry and Accessories

Under an aura of bright Pink and Shine, High Heels, oversized accessories, and big jewelry pieces, we will be combining them all with comfort loungewear. These are the HOT fashion trends for 2021-2022 to be implemented into full action and expression this summer.

Right now, we are still in the pandemic mood of wearing our pajamas or our sweats everywhere. Soon we will be embracing expressive clothing styles as a way to have fun and escape the pandemic and harsh lockdown realities.

Currently, shoppers’ top colors are blue and orange. Light and cool colors like blue are typically associated with calm, relaxation, and peace.  People want to tap into these colors as a comfort source to de-stress. Warm colors like orange are often associated with excitement, stimulation, and fun. Tapping into these colors can provide an emotional lift and the pink colors will help to do so.

Style does not exist in a silo, and current events will always impact the way people choose to dress. I believe people, after the lockdown, will be experimenting and choosing more expressive styles because eccentric outfits have been shown to carry a tension-release dimension due to their ability to help consumers escape from the humdrum nature of their reality.

The time for a change has arrived, and people feel euphoric to spend some dollars in feeling different, and that starts with the clothes you wear.
