Former President George W. Bush was the guest of honor at a 350-guest fundraiser commemorating the 20th anniversary of the naming of the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University. The school was so named 20 years ago by a transformational naming gift from Julia and George Argyros, and President Bush, who appointed the Argyroses U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra during his presidency, is a good friend and wanted to be there for the celebration. The Q&A following dinner with Julia and the President was both enlightening, engaging and full of good humor. The milestone occasion raised $5.5 million for the Argyros School’s endowment and prompted a surprise announcement by daughter and event chair Lisa Argyros ’07 of a $10 million from the family. The gift is part of the school’s “50 for 50” campaign to increase its endowment to $100 million.
