Milena Kitic, Newport Beach’s own opera star, has performed worldwide to great acclaim. Fortunately, Orange County audiences are getting their share of Kitic’s richly textured mezzo-soprano voice. Following her performance of arias from Carmen in late November at Soka University, Kitic returns to the same stage for a Valentine-themed concert Saturday, Feb. 16. “The World of Opera,” stories of love told through beloved opera music, will feature Kitic, tenor Bruce Sledge, soprano Julie Makevov and bass-baritone Aaron Pendleton. Both concerts are from the nonprofit Parnassus Society, whose founder, Dr. Kenneth Tokita, calls Kitic “the queen of Parnassus.” Parnassus Society brings top-quality musical artists to Orange County and supports the careers of promising young artists. At the February concert, Kitic will sing selections from Tales of Hoffmann, Carmen, Werther and La Traviata.
