picture

This holiday season All that Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives at Bowers Museum in Orange County will be open to the public on December 12, 2021. The exhibition opens daily at 10 am with tickets sold at reduced capacity on an hourly basis. A panel discussion and book signing with the Director of the Walt Disney Archives, Becky Cline, and friends will start at 1:30 pm in the Norma Kershaw Auditorium. Tickets and details are available at bowers.org.

What to expect

The “All That Glitters” exhibit is a unique opportunity to see the jewelry and accessories used in iconic movies spanning decades. Examples include the stunning “Heart of the Ocean” necklace from James Cameron’s Titanic (1997), or Anne Hathaway’s crowns and tiaras from The Princess Diaries movies (2001 and 2004). Fans have the opportunity to experience The Princess Diaries and some of their favorite Disney and 20th Century Studios films, in a way that they have never been able to before. The exhibit showcases crowns, tiaras, watches, rings, bracelets, and more that were designed by some of the biggest names in fashion. These pieces helped create our favorite moments in movies and entertainment archived by The Walt Disney Company.

Three Main Sections

The exhibit is divided into three main sections dedicated to the exploration of how jewelry is used to tell stories.

“Jewelry Informs Character,” tells us about the Character.

“Feature Vault” offers a striking look at the most prized jewelry and accessories inside the Walt Disney Archives.

“Reflections on Reality” includes displays that tie earrings, cuff links, rings, tie pins, and more back to the Disney films and amusement parks where they originated from.

The exhibit is curated by the Walt Disney Archives in conjunction with the Bowers Museum. Public programming for the Bowers Museum is generously sponsored by the Cramer Family Trust.

Public programs in conjunction with the exhibition will continue until the exhibition’s closing day on June 19, 2022.
